After producing and hosting over 1500 segments of "ESPN Sport Science," 6x Emmy Award-winning host and NY Times Best Selling author, John Brenkus, recognized that "high achievers" tend to share a similar story of attaining success that's driven by hard work and tough choices, accompanied by some moments that are simply divine.
Through The BRINK OF MIDNIGHT PODCAST, John explores the moments that guests credit with changing their lives forever... those that pushed them in an unexpected direction, shaping the experiences that followed and molding them into the people who they are today.
John and Lizzie Brenkus are a husband and wife duo who love to push limits and explore, whether in the arts, sport, or business. 10 years into marriage they discovered that, by combining their talents, they could create music together. Late nights and long road trips were filled with riffing, collaborating, and experimenting…creating the foundation of what would become BRINK OF MIDNIGHT.
Why the name? Lizzie and John consider a "brink of midnight" moment to be one where one life chapter ends, and a significant event launches you in a new, life-altering direction. In fact, it was a "brink of midnight" moment that brought Lizzie and John together. They met sitting next to each other on a plane in Denver, it was love at first sight, and lo and behold, it turned out they lived two blocks from each other on the same street in LA!
In 2013 and 2014, Lizzie and John wrote and self-released their indie holiday track "Christmas is My Favorite Time of Year", which charted Top 30 AC in December 2015, has over three million YouTube views, and plays on SiriusXM "Holly" during the holidays.
BRINK OF MIDNIGHT launched in late 2016 with the release of indie rock single "Wake Up Your Soul" off their forthcoming debut album to be released in late 2017.
Outside of creating and recording, you can find Lizzie and John adventuring in the great outdoors of California, Utah, and the Colorado Rockies. They love to test their limits and help others do the same. John and Lizzie are accomplished endurance athletes in Ironman triathlon, ultra-marathon, marathon, trail running, mountain biking, and long distance open water swimming. John has five full Ironman triathlons to his name (New Zealand, Australia, Arizona, and 2x Kona Ironman World Championship), the first of which he did on a dare. He has also completed the Leadville Trail 100 Mile Mountain Bike Race and the Distance Swim Challenge (12.6 open water swim race along the coast of Los Angeles). Lizzie took an unlikely route to endurance racing via dance. She has three full Ironman triathlons under her belt (Arizona, Kona Ironman World Championship, and Ironman Lake Tahoe), many ultra-marathons including the Leadville Trail 100 Mile Ultra Marathon, and, among others, both the New York Marathon (2016, 2017) and the Boston Marathon (2011, 2018).
John and Lizzie are passionate about causes centered on sport, the arts, and giving back, and regularly support: Challenged Athletes Foundation, Exceeding Expectations, National Parks Conservation Association, and Mountain Trails Foundation. Lizzie is an Ambassador for both World Bicycle Relief and Fast and Female.
John co-founded with Ray Lewis and Rob Vaka the Ray of Hope Foundation in 2017 to help provide messages of hope to those in dire need.
